Rollidepõhine

Rollidepõhine is a term used to describe an approach in which tasks, permissions, and responsibilities are organized around defined roles rather than individual people. It is applied across domains such as information security, workflow management, and organizational governance to improve consistency, scalability, and policy compliance. The word combines roll (role) and põhine (based on).

In information security, rollidepõhine often refers to role-based access control (RBAC). In RBAC, permissions are assigned to roles and users gain permissions by belonging to those roles. Role hierarchies can allow higher roles to inherit permissions, while constraints enforce separation of duties. This structure helps reduce privilege creep, simplifies administration, and supports auditability.

Beyond access control, rollidepõhine design supports workflows and process management by assigning tasks to roles rather than individuals. This facilitates task reassignment when staff changes and aligns with accountability models such as RACI (responsible, accountable, consulted, informed) to clarify duties and involvement.

Benefits of rollidepõhine approaches include easier administration, enforcement of the principle of least privilege, improved compliance, and scalable permissions management. Potential drawbacks include role explosion (an excessive number of roles), maintenance overhead, rigidity in rapidly changing environments, and the risk of role conflicts if roles are poorly defined.

Implementation considerations include creating a complete role catalog, mapping roles to permissions and duties, enforcing separation of duties, and establishing governance and review processes.
