Rivjärn

Rivjärn is a kitchen implement used to grate or shred foods by rubbing them against a sharp perforated surface. The tool creates fine shreds or small curls depending on the size of the holes and the direction of the motion.

Design varieties include flat hand graters, box graters with multiple grating surfaces, and narrower microplane-style models with very fine blades. Some rivjärn have interchangeable surfaces or non-slip bases. Common materials are stainless steel and aluminum, often with plastic or rubber handles for grip.
