Ritterhude

Ritterhude is a municipality in the district of Osterholz, Lower Saxony, Germany. It is located on the right bank of the river Weser, approximately 15 kilometers northeast of Bremen. The municipality comprises Ritterhude itself and several smaller villages and hamlets including Platjenwerbe, Worpsee, and Ihlpohl.

Historically, Ritterhude was first mentioned in the 13th century. Its name is believed to derive from a "Ritter" (knight) who owned land there. The area has a long history of agricultural use. In more recent times, Ritterhude has developed into a suburban community for the nearby city of Bremen, with many residents commuting to Bremen for work.

The municipality is characterized by its green spaces, including forests and the large artificial lake, Tietjensee, which is popular for recreational activities.
