Riskijuhtimissüsteem, or risk management system, is a structured approach an organization uses to identify, assess, and control potential threats to its operations, finances, and reputation. The primary goal of such a system is to minimize the negative impact of unforeseen events and to maximize opportunities. It involves a continuous cycle of planning, implementation, monitoring, and review.

The process typically begins with risk identification, where potential risks are systematically brainstormed and documented. These risks can be internal, such as employee errors or system failures, or external, like market fluctuations or regulatory changes. Once identified, risks are assessed based on their likelihood of occurring and their potential severity. This assessment helps prioritize which risks require the most attention.

Following assessment, control measures are developed and implemented. These can include strategies to avoid the risk altogether, reduce its likelihood or impact, transfer it to another party (e.g., through insurance), or accept it if the potential impact is deemed minimal. The effectiveness of these control measures is then continuously monitored.

A well-functioning risk management system is not a one-time project but an ongoing process integrated into the organization's culture and decision-making. It requires clear communication, defined responsibilities, and commitment from leadership. By proactively managing risks, organizations can enhance their resilience, achieve their objectives more reliably, and gain a competitive advantage.
