Rimava

Rimava is a river in Slovakia. It is a left tributary of the Sajó River, which itself flows into the Tisza River in Hungary. The Rimava originates in the Veporské vrchy mountains in central Slovakia and flows generally southward through the Rimava Valley. The river is approximately 130 kilometers long and is a significant watercourse in the region.

The drainage basin of the Rimava covers an area of roughly 1,300 square kilometers. Along its course, the Rimava passes through several towns and villages, including Tisovec, Hrachovo, and Rimavská Sobota, the largest town on the river. The landscape through which the Rimava flows is characterized by a mix of forested mountains and agricultural lowlands.

Historically, the Rimava has played a role in the economic development of the region, particularly in terms of water supply and, in earlier times, for mills. Today, the river is also a recreational resource, popular for fishing and other water-based activities. Environmental considerations and water management are important aspects related to the Rimava. The river's flow can vary depending on precipitation and snowmelt, and flood control measures are in place in some areas. The confluence of the Rimava with the Sajó is located near the border with Hungary.
