Rikochets

Rikochets is a concept that describes the phenomenon of a projectile or object bouncing off a surface at an angle. This rebound occurs when the object strikes the surface with sufficient velocity and at an angle that is not perpendicular. The term "rikochet" itself has French origins, derived from the verb "ricocher," meaning to bounce.

When a rikochet occurs, the incoming angle of the object relative to the surface is approximately equal to the outgoing angle. The surface's hardness and the object's elasticity play significant roles in determining the nature of the rikochet. Harder surfaces and more elastic objects tend to produce more pronounced ricochets, with less energy loss. Conversely, softer surfaces or less elastic objects may absorb more of the impact energy, resulting in a less significant bounce or even a stop.
