Righthandside

Righthandside is the term used to describe the expression located on the right-hand side of an equation or inequality. It is commonly abbreviated RHS, with the counterpart LHS standing for the left-hand side. The two sides are linked by the relation stated in the equation, and solving tasks typically involve manipulating either side or comparing them.

In mathematics, the RHS can be a constant, an algebraic expression, a function, a vector, or a matrix. For example, in the equation x + 3 = 7, the RHS is the constant 7. In a linear system Ax = b, the RHS is the vector b. In differential equations such as dy/dt = f(y,t), the RHS refers to the function f(y,t) that governs the rate of change.

In physics and engineering, the RHS is often described as a source term or forcing function, representing external inputs to a system. In partial differential equations of the form Lu = f, the f on the right-hand side is the RHS.

In computing, the RHS of an assignment statement is the value or expression evaluated to produce the value that will be stored in the left-hand side variable, as in a = b + 1, where b + 1 is the RHS.
