Ridha

Ridha (Arabic: رضا) is an Arabic term meaning contentment, satisfaction, or acceptance. It derives from the root r-ḍ-ā, which conveys being pleased or content; the form ridha is used in contexts that describe being pleased with or accepting a situation, often with reference to divine will.

In Islam, ridha denotes a spiritual state or virtue of accepting God’s will (qadar). In theology and Sufism, attaining ridha is associated with trust in God (tawakkul) and patience (sabr). Sacred texts and traditional exegesis present contentment as a desirable attitude for believers, and in some discussions it is described as a high spiritual station of the soul.

As a personal name, Ridha (also rendered Rida or Ridhā) is a masculine given name in the Arab and broader Muslim world. It is based on the same lexical root as the concept of contentment and is used across many Muslim-majority countries, including parts of the Middle East and South Asia. The name appears in the titles or epithets of notable figures such as Ali al-Ridha, the eighth Imam in Twelver Shia Islam, where ar-Ridha means “the Content.”

In modern usage, Ridha may appear in compound names (Ridha-ullah, Ridha-ali) or as a surname derived from the given name. Variants include Rida, Ridhah, and Ridha.
