Rettungskräften refers to the trained personnel and organizations that respond to emergencies in German-speaking regions. They operate across the sectors of emergency medical services, fire protection, and disaster relief, and may include police and auxiliary organizations. The term emphasizes the responders who perform rescue and lifesaving tasks under time pressure.

A central component is the Rettungsdienst, the emergency medical service. This includes paramedics, Notfallsanitäter and other ambulance personnel who provide prehospital care, stabilize patients, and arrange transport to hospitals. In many countries, both professional and voluntary staff participate in EMS, supported by dispatched emergency physicians and specialized teams.

Fire departments, or Feuerwehr, form another core pillar. They handle firefighting, technical rescue (such as vehicle extrication and lifting operations), and hazardous materials response. Depending on the country, fire services may be fully professional, volunteer, or a mix. In some cases, disaster relief organizations and air rescue services complement municipal fire and EMS operations, offering additional capabilities and rapid response.

Collaboration among Rettungskräften is essential for effective incident management. Modern systems rely on coordinated dispatch, standardized communication, and joint training. Equipment commonly includes ambulances, fire engines, rescue tools, and, in many regions, helicopter rescue or air-ambulance units. Ongoing training, quality assurance, and cross-agency drills help maintain readiness for a wide range of scenarios, from everyday medical calls to large-scale disasters.
