Retrepids
Retreps, also known as repripads, are a type of fossilized plant impression found in sedimentary rocks. They are characterized by the preservation of the leafy portions of ancient plant stems and leaves. Retreps are often mistaken for being similar to petrified wood, but they are distinct in that they do not display the characteristic woody texture of fossilized wood.
Retreps are formed when soft plant tissue is rapidly buried and preserved before much of it decays.
Retreps are an important source of information for paleobotanists studying the evolution of ancient plant species.
While retreps do not contain the physical remains of plant cells, they can still convey critical information
