Restende

Restende is a municipality and commune in the fictional region of Nordmark, in the country of Veridia. It is the administrative seat of the Restende District and covers about 37 square kilometers. In 2022 the population was roughly 8,900.

Geography: Restende lies in a gentle valley along the Resten River, with forests and rolling hills nearby. The climate is temperate, with mild summers and wet winters. Agriculture focuses on dairy and grain.

History: The settlement is first mentioned in 1310 as Restendor. It grew around a medieval bridge and parish church, gained town privileges in the 1600s, and developed as a regional market town. In the 19th century small textile and metal workshops appeared.

Economy and infrastructure: The economy centers on farming, light manufacturing, and services. Restende is served by a regional rail line and national roads, with a local bus network. The weekly Restende Market remains a social and commercial hub.

Culture and institutions: The town hosts the annual Restende Festival and maintains a network of crafts guilds. Public institutions include Restende Public Library and two primary schools; a secondary school serves the district.

Sights and demographics: Notable sites include the late-Gothic Restende Cathedral, the 18th-century Old Mill, and the riverside promenade. The population is mainly ethnic Restendi, with small communities from neighboring regions. Religion is predominantly Lutheran, with Catholic and secular residents present.
