Rerouted

Rerouted is the past participle of reroute. It describes the act of changing the planned path of a person, vehicle, shipment, or signal after a route has been established. Rerouting can be intentional or forced by external factors, and it often involves instructions, signage, or automated control to guide travelers or data along an alternative path.

In transportation, rerouting is common in road traffic to avoid construction, accidents, or closures. Detours direct traffic to alternate streets; in public transit and rail, schedules may be adjusted and trains diverted to different lines. In aviation, flight paths may be rerouted to manage weather, airspace restrictions, or congestion.

In telecommunications and computing, rerouting refers to changing the path of data packets or signals. Routing protocols, such as dynamic routing and failover mechanisms, may reassign routes in response to link failures or congestion. Rerouting can involve rerouting traffic within an internal network, or on the wider internet via updates to routing tables and border gateway protocol decisions.

In utilities and logistics, rerouting can apply to power distribution, water supply, or courier deliveries when normal channels are disrupted. The goal is to maintain service while minimizing delays and ensuring safety, often using monitoring systems, alerts, and contingency plans.
