Reptët
Reptët, also known as reptiles, are a group of tetrapod vertebrates that are characterized by their scaly skin, typically laid down in overlapping shields called scutes. This skin is derived from ectoderm and is covered by a layer of keratin, which provides protection and reduces water loss. Reptiles are ectothermic, meaning they rely on external sources of heat to regulate their body temperature. This group includes several well-known orders, such as Squamata (lizards and snakes), Testudines (turtles and tortoises), Crocodilia (crocodiles, alligators, and caimans), and Sphenodontia (tuataras).
Reptiles first appeared during the late Carboniferous period, around 300 million years ago. They diversified significantly
Reptiles have several unique adaptations that have contributed to their success. Their scaly skin provides protection
Despite their diversity and success, reptiles face numerous threats, including habitat loss, pollution, and climate change.
