Replatformointi, often translated as replatforming, is a cloud migration strategy where applications are moved to a new platform with minimal changes to their core architecture. The primary goal is to leverage the benefits of a new environment, such as cloud infrastructure, without undertaking a complete rewrite or redesign of the application. This approach typically involves modifying the application's operating system, database, or middleware to be compatible with the target platform.

Unlike refactoring, which involves significant code changes to optimize for the new environment, or rehosting (lift-and-shift), which moves an application with virtually no changes, replatforming strikes a balance. It allows organizations to gain advantages like improved scalability, cost efficiency, and access to modern cloud services, while reducing the risk and time associated with a full modernization effort.

The process often involves adapting the application to cloud-native services. For instance, an on-premises database might be replaced with a managed cloud database service, or the application's deployment mechanism could be updated to utilize containerization technologies.
