Rendszerkövetelmény, often translated as system requirement, refers to a statement that a product, system, or service must meet to satisfy a contract, specification, standard, or other formally imposed document. In software development, system requirements define what a system is supposed to do, the constraints it must operate within, and the quality attributes it must possess. They are crucial for ensuring that the final product meets the needs of its stakeholders.

System requirements can be broadly categorized into functional and non-functional requirements. Functional requirements describe the specific behaviors or functions of the system – what it should do. For example, a functional requirement for an e-commerce website might be that users can add items to their shopping cart. Non-functional requirements, on the other hand, define the qualities or constraints of the system, such as performance, security, usability, and reliability. An example of a non-functional requirement could be that the website must load within three seconds.

The process of defining system requirements typically involves elicitation, analysis, specification, and validation. Elicitation gathers needs from stakeholders, analysis organizes and refines these needs, specification documents them clearly and unambiguously, and validation ensures that the documented requirements accurately reflect the stakeholders' expectations. Well-defined system requirements form the foundation for successful system design, development, and testing, minimizing misunderstandings and costly rework. They serve as a common understanding between the development team and the client or user.
