Renderöintimalleja, or rendering models, are fundamental concepts in computer graphics that describe how light interacts with surfaces to create realistic images. These models determine the visual appearance of objects by simulating various optical phenomena.

A basic rendering model often involves calculating the surface normal, the direction perpendicular to the surface at a given point. This normal is crucial for determining how light reflects off the surface. The simplest models, like the Lambertian model, assume diffuse reflection, where light scatters equally in all directions, resulting in a uniformly colored surface regardless of the viewing angle.

More advanced models incorporate specular reflection, which simulates the shiny highlights seen on polished surfaces. This involves calculating the angle of reflection and considering factors like the viewer's position and the light source direction. The Phong and Blinn-Phong models are well-known examples that add specular components to diffuse reflection.

Physically-based rendering (PBR) models represent a more sophisticated approach. PBR aims to simulate light interaction more accurately according to physical laws. They often utilize concepts like microfacet theory, which models surfaces as composed of many tiny, randomly oriented facets. PBR models typically account for parameters such as albedo (the base color), metallicness (how much the surface behaves like metal), and roughness (how uneven the surface is at a microscopic level), leading to more consistent and realistic results under different lighting conditions.

These models are essential tools for creating everything from video game visuals and architectural visualizations to animated films and product designs. The choice of rendering model depends on the desired level of realism, computational resources, and the specific application.
