Relateds

Relateds is a term used to describe items that are related to a given item, concept, or document. While not a fixed technical term in every discipline, it is used informally in information systems, linguistics, and data analysis as shorthand for related entities, terms, or ideas.

In linguistics and natural language processing, relateds refer to words or phrases that are semantically connected to a target term. This can include synonyms, hypernyms, collocations, or domain-specific associations that help expand queries or improve relevance in retrieval and recommendation tasks.

In data modeling and knowledge graphs, relateds are neighboring nodes or documents linked by relationships. For a document, relateds are other documents with overlapping topics or citations; for a person, relateds are relatives or professional associates connected by edges in the graph.

Methods to identify relateds include lexical similarity measures (such as embeddings and cosine similarity), co-occurrence statistics, explicit relational data, and user behavior signals. Relatedness is often context-dependent and can vary across domains, requiring careful validation and updating over time.

Applications include search and recommendation systems, where relateds help surface relevant content; content organization, where relateds aid navigation; and knowledge management, where relateds support reasoning across linked concepts.
