Relaiskernen

Relaiskernen is a term used in telecommunications and network design to describe the core layer of relay nodes that interconnect regional edge relays with backbone networks. The concept refers to a centralized or distributed set of high-capacity nodes responsible for transporting large volumes of traffic, performing interconnect routing, and providing network resilience.

In typical deployments, relaisetkernen consists of multiple physical and virtual nodes placed in strategic locations such as carrier hotels or data centers. They operate at the data plane to forward traffic and at the control plane to manage routing, signaling, and path selection.
