It refers to the individual or department responsible for acquiring, managing, and maintaining all the props used in a performance or film. Props, short for theatrical properties, are any movable objects that actors may touch or interact with on stage or in front of a camera. This can range from simple items like a teacup or a book to complex mechanical devices or set dressing that is handled by actors.

The role of a rekvisiitor is multifaceted. They must be able to interpret the script and the director's vision to determine what props are needed. This involves sourcing items, which may involve purchasing new items, renting them, fabricating them from scratch, or borrowing them from other theaters or prop houses. Once acquired, the rekvisiitor is responsible for ensuring the props are in good condition, functional, and appropriate for the period and style of the production. They also manage the inventory, organizing and storing props securely between rehearsals and performances. During a show or filming, the rekvisiitor is often on hand to make sure props are in the right place at the right time and to make any necessary on-the-spot repairs.
