Reián

Reiän is a coastal city and regional capital in the southern archipelago of the fictional realm of Aldoria. It serves as a major commercial and cultural center, with a long maritime heritage centered around its natural harbor.

The name Reiän comes from the old Rei language, meaning “refuge by the reeds.” The city lies on the delta of the Reiån River, where saltwater mixes with riverine flats and a network of channels forms an extensive waterways system. The climate is temperate, with mild winters and warm summers.

Reiän emerged in the 9th century as a trading post and grew into a walled city-state. It joined the United Confederation of Aldoria in the 16th century and today operates as the capital of the Reián Prefecture within the federation. Local government follows a mayor-council system, with a 20-member council elected to four-year terms.

The municipality has roughly 120,000 residents. The economy centers on the port, fish processing, shipbuilding, logistics, and services, alongside a growing tech and tourism sector, particularly in the harbor district. The city maintains a reputation for crafts such as ropework and glassblowing and hosts a number of cultural institutions.

Cultural life centers on the annual Bloom Festival, which celebrates maritime harvests. Notable sites include the Old Fort Reián, the Pearl Library, and the Lyra Conservatory. Reiän is connected by a ferry network to neighboring islands, a regional rail line to inland cities, and Reián International Airport, which serves regional and international flights.
