Referentnim
Referentnim is a theoretical construct in linguistics and semiotics used to describe a family of referential markers that encode the status of a referent within discourse. The term combines referent with nim, a coined morpheme class representing referential indexing. In systems employing referentnim, a noun phrase may carry one of several markers to signal whether the referent is new to the discourse, previously mentioned (anaphoric), deictic with respect to the present context, or highly salient to the current listener and speaker. Markers can be realized as affixes, clitics, or standalone particles, and may be used in natural languages as a theoretical model or in constructed languages and thought experiments.
