Reduktime

Reduktime is a term used in productivity and process improvement to describe the amount of time saved in completing a task or process after optimization. It can be expressed as a duration (minutes, hours) or as a percentage reduction relative to a baseline.

Origin and scope: Reduktime is a portmanteau of reduction and time; it is not a standardized technical term, and its meaning varies across industries such as manufacturing, software development, logistics, and business process management.

Calculation: reduktime = baseline duration − new duration. Example: a baseline task takes 8 minutes, the optimized task 5 minutes; reduktime is 3 minutes, or 37.5 percent.

Applications: used for performance benchmarking, ROI estimation, project planning, and capacity analysis. It helps quantify the impact of process changes, automation, or training.

Limitations: focusing on time can overlook quality, reliability, or safety. Reduktime measurements can be affected by scope changes, task variation, or measurement error, so consistency and context are important.
