Recomposition

Recomposition is the process of combining or rearranging existing parts to form a new whole. The term is used across disciplines to denote a reorganization of components rather than creation from scratch.

In materials science and chemistry, recomposition often describes the reorganization of atoms or phases within a material after external treatment. Examples include recrystallization, phase transformations during heat treatment, precipitation or dissolution of secondary phases, and the restoration of a metal’s original microstructure after deformation. Recomposition processes depend on temperature, pressure, composition, and time, and they influence properties such as strength, hardness, and ductility.

In the arts, recomposition refers to the act of taking an existing work and reworking its structure, materials, or form to create a new version. In music, this may involve re-arranging a composition, altering instrumentation, rhythm, or harmony. In literature or visual arts, artists may recombine motifs, scenes, or elements to produce an altered piece that preserves some original content while changing its meaning or emphasis.

Other uses include data or signal processing, where recomposition describes reconstructing a signal from parts or combining data fragments into a coherent whole; in systems design, it may refer to reassembling modules to form an updated product.
