Rechabites
The Rechabites were a clan mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, known for their strict adherence to a nomadic lifestyle and abstention from wine. They are primarily described in the Book of Jeremiah, chapters 35. According to the narrative, Jeremiah was instructed by God to test the loyalty of the Rechabites by offering them wine. They refused, citing the command of their ancestor Jonadab, son of Rechab, who had forbidden them and their descendants from drinking wine, building houses, sowing seed, or owning vineyards. Their reason was to live as sojourners in the land, a way of life intended to preserve them from the corrupting influences of settled society.
Jeremiah used their steadfast obedience to their ancestral vow as a rebuke to the people of Judah,
