Rec. 709 and BT.1886 are related standards in video production and display technology. BT.1886, formally ITU-R BT.1886, is a recommendation that specifically addresses the display characteristics and, importantly, the black level and gamma for HDTV displays. It defines a reference gamma of 2.4 for the display of Rec. 709 content.
