Ravimimtootmine refers to the industrial-scale production of pharmaceutical drugs. This process involves a series of complex steps to ensure the safety, efficacy, and quality of medications intended for human or animal use. The journey from raw materials to a finished drug product is highly regulated and requires adherence to strict manufacturing standards known as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

The initial stages of ravimimtootmine typically involve the synthesis or extraction of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). These are the chemical compounds responsible for the therapeutic effect of the drug. Following API production, which can involve chemical reactions, fermentation, or biotechnology, the API is formulated into its final dosage form. Formulation involves combining the API with excipients, which are inactive ingredients that aid in drug delivery, stability, and palatability.

Throughout the entire production process, rigorous quality control measures are implemented. This includes testing raw materials, in-process samples, and the final product to verify identity, purity, potency, and other critical attributes. Analytical techniques such as chromatography and spectroscopy are commonly employed. Packaging is another crucial step, ensuring the drug is protected from environmental factors and is clearly labeled with dosage information and expiry dates. Finally, the finished drugs are distributed to pharmacies, hospitals, and other healthcare providers, making them accessible to patients.
