Rauparaha
Te Rauparaha (c. 1760s–1849) was a Māori rangatira and a leading figure of the Ngāti Toa iwi in Aotearoa New Zealand. He is one of the most renowned leaders of the Musket Wars era, known for his military campaigns, strategic diplomacy, and influence across the southern North Island and Cook Strait region. He is traditionally associated with the migration of Ngāti Toa from the Kāwhia area to Kapiti Island in the early 19th century, where his people established a fortified base.
