Raudoksüdi

Raudoksüdi, also known as iron oxide, is a chemical compound with the formula Fe₂O₃. It is a common naturally occurring substance found in many rocks and minerals, most notably in hematite. Iron oxides are responsible for the reddish-brown color of many soils and rocks.

There are several different types of iron oxides, each with distinct properties. The most common form is ferric oxide (Fe₂O₃), which is a red or brown solid. Ferrous oxide (FeO) is another type, appearing as a black solid. Magnetite (Fe₃O₄) is a magnetic form of iron oxide.

Raudoksüdi has a wide range of applications. It is used as a pigment in paints, cosmetics, and inks, providing a range of earthy colors. In construction, it is used as a component in cement and bricks. The ability of certain iron oxides to absorb and emit light also makes them useful in the development of catalysts and in certain electronic applications. Magnetite, due to its magnetic properties, is used in magnetic storage media and as a component in some electric motors.

The production of synthetic iron oxides involves various chemical processes, often starting from iron salts. These synthetic versions allow for control over particle size and color, making them suitable for specialized industrial uses. Raudoksüdi is generally considered a safe compound, although prolonged exposure to fine dust can cause respiratory irritation.
