Rasterkujud

Rasterkujud, also known as raster graphics or bitmap graphics, are digital images composed of a grid of individual pixels. Each pixel is a small, colored square that, when viewed together, form a complete image. The resolution of a rasterkuju is determined by the number of pixels it contains, often expressed as width by height (e.g., 1920x1080). Higher resolution means more pixels and therefore a more detailed image, but also a larger file size.

Rasterkujud are created by digital cameras, scanners, and image editing software. They are widely used for photographs, digital paintings, and complex graphics with subtle color gradations. Common file formats for rasterkujud include JPEG, PNG, GIF, and BMP. JPEGs are good for photographs due to their ability to compress images effectively, while PNGs are preferred for graphics that require transparency or lossless compression.

A key characteristic of rasterkujud is their resolution dependency. When a rasterkuju is scaled up beyond its original size, the individual pixels become visible, resulting in a loss of image quality and a "pixelated" appearance. This makes them less suitable for designs that need to be resized frequently, such as logos, which are better suited to vector graphics.
