Rasteripohjaiset

Rasteripohjaiset refers to a category of digital images that are composed of a grid of individual pixels. Each pixel is assigned a specific color and brightness value, and collectively these pixels form the complete image. This method is also known as bitmap graphics.

Common file formats for raster images include JPEG, PNG, GIF, and BMP. These formats are widely used for photographs, digital art, and web graphics due to their ability to represent complex color gradients and fine details.

The primary characteristic of raster images is their resolution dependency. When a raster image is scaled up beyond its original dimensions, the pixels become larger and more noticeable, leading to a loss of image quality and a "blocky" appearance. This is in contrast to vector graphics, which are based on mathematical equations and can be scaled infinitely without degradation.

Raster images are created or edited using software such as Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, and Paint.NET. They are suitable for detailed and photorealistic imagery but can result in larger file sizes, especially at high resolutions and color depths. The process of converting an image into a raster format is often called rasterization. This occurs when vector data, such as text or shapes, is rendered into pixels for display on a screen or for printing.
