Raskausestoa refers to a phenomenon where a pregnant individual experiences a blockage or obstruction in their urinary tract. This can manifest in various ways, most commonly as difficulty urinating or a complete inability to pass urine. The condition can be caused by several factors directly related to pregnancy.

One frequent cause is the pressure exerted by the growing uterus on the bladder and urethra. As the pregnancy progresses, particularly in the later stages, the enlarged uterus can compress these structures, impeding the normal flow of urine. Another contributing factor can be the relaxation of the muscles in the urinary tract due to hormonal changes during pregnancy. This relaxation can lead to a sluggishness in bladder function, making it harder to empty completely and increasing the risk of retention.

In some instances, raskausestoa might be a symptom of a more significant underlying issue, such as a urinary tract infection (UTI) that has become complicated, or the presence of kidney stones. Swelling and edema during pregnancy can also play a role in some cases.

The symptoms can range from mild discomfort and a feeling of incomplete bladder emptying to severe pain and abdominal distension. Prompt medical attention is crucial if these symptoms arise, as untreated urinary retention can lead to kidney damage, infection, and other serious complications.
