Ramaphosa

Cyril Ramaphosa, born 17 November 1952, is a South African politician and businessman who has served as President of South Africa since February 2018. He is the leader of the African National Congress (ANC), a position he has held since December 2017, and he previously served as Deputy President of South Africa from 2014 to 2018.

Ramaphosa rose to prominence as an anti-apartheid activist and labor organizer. He helped found and lead the National Union of Mineworkers in the 1980s, a major voice for Black workers during the late apartheid era, and he participated in negotiations that contributed to South Africa's transition to democracy.

In business, Ramaphosa built a diversified career as an entrepreneur and investor. He led the Shanduka Group, a private investment company with interests in energy, mining, financial services, and property, and he has served on several corporate and non-profit boards.

His political career includes roles within the ANC and the government, culminating in his election as ANC president in 2017 and his succession to the presidency in 2018 after then-president Jacob Zuma resigned. He has overseen economic reform efforts, governance initiatives, and responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, while facing ongoing public scrutiny and corruption-related debates.

Ramaphosa is married and has children. He remains a central figure in South African politics and is often described as a pragmatic reformer seeking to balance economic growth with social equity.
