Rajkot

Rajkot is a city and municipal corporation in the state of Gujarat, India. It is the administrative headquarters of Rajkot district and of the Rajkot division, and a major economic and cultural center in the Saurashtra region. The city lies on the banks of the Aji and Nyari rivers.

Historically, Rajkot developed as the capital of the Jadeja rulers of the Saurashtra region. After India's independence, it became part of Bombay State and, with the formation of Gujarat in 1960, joined the new state. It has since grown into a commercial and educational hub.

Cultural and educational institutions in Rajkot include the Watson Museum, which houses archaeological and historical artifacts from the region; Kaba Gandhi No Delo, the boyhood home of Mahatma Gandhi; and the Rotary Dolls Museum. The city also hosts temples, mosques and markets that reflect Gujarati culture.

Economy and education: Rajkot serves as a commercial center for the surrounding area with trade in textiles, jewelry and other goods. It is home to Saurashtra University and a number of colleges and institutes, making it an important center for higher education in the region.

Transport: The city is served by Rajkot Junction railway station, an important rail hub on the Western Railway. Rajkot Airport provides domestic air links to major Indian cities, and the city is connected by road to other centers in Gujarat.
