RStruktur

RStruktur is a conceptual framework and modeling language designed to describe recursive structural relationships within complex systems. It provides a compact representation of components, their attributes, and the relations that tie them together, supporting both hierarchical visualization and rule-based constraints.

The term is used in technical literature primarily in German-speaking contexts, where Struktur means structure and the initial "R" is interpreted as rule, relation, or recursive. It is not a single standard but a family of approaches applied across domains.

Core concepts include nodes for entities, edges for relations, templates for recurring patterns, and a rule set to encode constraints and inferences. RStruktur emphasizes recursion, allowing nodes to contain subnodes and form nested hierarchies, while promoting modular composition and traceability.

Tradeoffs exist between expressivity and complexity. Descriptions can be written in compact text or graphical form and translated into executable artifacts. Toolchains often provide validators, visualizers, and code generators targeting languages such as Java, Python, or domain-specific representations.

Applications span software architecture modeling, product configuration, data provenance, and knowledge graphs. For example, a vehicle model may describe subsystems (drivetrain, electrical, safety) and their components with constraints on compatibility and dependencies.

RStruktur remains a flexible concept rather than a single standard; its effectiveness depends on clear scope, tooling, and governance to prevent model drift and maintenance challenges.
