An RFID system, or Radio-Frequency Identification system, is a technology that uses radio waves to identify and track tags attached to objects. These tags, also known as transponders, contain electronically stored information. The system consists of three main components: the RFID tag, the RFID reader, and the antenna. The antenna is used to communicate with the RFID tag, sending and receiving radio waves. The RFID reader emits radio waves to activate the tag and then reads the data stored on it. The data is then processed by a system, often a computer.

There are two main types of RFID tags: passive and active. Passive tags are powered by the electromagnetic field generated by the reader and do not have their own power source. Active tags, on the other hand, have their own internal power source, such as a battery, which allows them to transmit signals over longer distances and at higher frequencies. The range of an RFID system can vary significantly, from a few centimeters for passive tags to several meters or even kilometers for active tags.

RFID systems are used in a wide variety of applications. These include inventory management in retail, supply chain and logistics tracking, access control in buildings, toll collection on highways, and even animal identification. The ability to quickly and accurately identify and track items without direct line-of-sight contact makes RFID a valuable tool for improving efficiency and data accuracy in many industries.
