While this offers manufacturers control, it can also present challenges for users who wish to use a variety of software.

The primary advantage of shooting in RAW is the ability to make significant adjustments to exposure, white balance, and color saturation without the degradation of image quality that would occur with a compressed format like JPEG. This makes RAW files ideal for professional photographers and advanced amateurs who require the highest level of control over their images.

However, RAW files are significantly larger than JPEGs, requiring more storage space on memory cards and computers. They also necessitate post-processing, as they are not immediately ready for sharing or printing. The trade-off for this increased flexibility is a more involved workflow and greater demand on storage and processing power.
