Queensrÿches is a common misspelling of the band Queensrÿche, the American progressive metal group known for its distinctive diacritic over the letter y in the official name. The proper spelling is Queensrÿche, and the name reflects the band’s penchant for distinctive typography. Formed in 1982 in Bellevue, Washington, the band established a sound that blended heavy metal with progressive rock and storytelling.

The original lineup—Geoff Tate (vocals), Michael Wilton (guitar), Chris DeGarmo (guitar), Eddie Jackson (bass), and Scott Rockenfield (drums)—gained prominence after the 1988 concept album Operation: Mindcrime, followed by the commercially successful Empire (1990), which featured charting singles and a broader audience. The band became a staple of the late 1980s and early 1990s metal scene and helped popularize progressive metal with complex arrangements and narrative themes.

Throughout the 1990s and beyond, Queensrÿche experienced several lineup changes. DeGarmo left in 1998, and Tate remained the frontman until a 2012 dispute culminated in a legal separation. A reformed lineup with Todd La Torre on vocals released a self-titled album in 2013, followed by Condition Human (2015), The Verdict (2019), and Digital Noise Alliance (2022). The group has continued to release material and tour, maintaining a dedicated fanbase.
