Quartzarenites
Quartzarenite is a type of sandstone composed of at least 90% detrital quartz grains. This high quartz content signifies significant weathering and transport of the original sediment. Quartz is a durable mineral, resistant to physical abrasion and chemical decomposition, which allows it to survive extended journeys from its source rock to the depositional environment. The remaining 10% of the rock can include other minerals like feldspar and lithic fragments, as well as cement, which binds the grains together.
The formation of quartzarenites typically occurs in environments where the source rocks are rich in quartz
Quartzarenites are important in economic geology as they can be reservoirs for hydrocarbons like oil and natural
