QLEDnäytöissä stands for Quantum-dot Light Emitting Diode displays. These displays utilize quantum dots, which are tiny semiconductor nanocrystals that emit light of specific colors when illuminated. In QLED televisions, a layer of quantum dots is placed between the LED backlight and the LCD panel.

When the LED backlight shines through the quantum dot layer, the dots absorb the light and re-emit it at purer and more saturated colors. This enhancement allows QLED displays to achieve wider color gamuts and brighter images compared to traditional LED-backlit LCD TVs. The quantum dots themselves do not produce light; they act as color converters, improving the color performance of the underlying LCD technology.

Key advantages of QLED displays include their excellent brightness levels, making them suitable for well-lit rooms, and their ability to display a wide range of vibrant colors. They also benefit from the mature manufacturing processes of LCD technology, often resulting in a good balance of performance and price. However, like all LCD-based technologies, QLEDs do not achieve true black levels and can suffer from blooming, where light from bright areas can slightly bleed into dark areas. Their contrast ratio is therefore dependent on the local dimming capabilities of the backlight system.
