Päästikumehhanism

Päästikumehhanism refers to the system within a firearm that allows the user to discharge the weapon. It is a critical component that translates the action of pulling the trigger into the mechanical operation required to fire a projectile. The specific design and function of a päästikumehhanism can vary significantly depending on the type of firearm, such as a pistol, rifle, or shotgun, and its firing mechanism, including single-action, double-action, or striker-fired systems.

In its simplest form, a päästikumehhanism typically involves a trigger, a sear, and a hammer or striker. When the trigger is pulled, it moves a linkage that releases the sear. The sear is a component that holds the hammer or striker under spring tension. Once released, the hammer or striker is propelled forward, striking the primer of a cartridge, initiating the firing sequence.
