Pyreetärekatus

Pyreetärekatus, also known as pyrite roof or fool's gold roof, is a type of roofing material that uses pyrite, a mineral composed of iron disulfide (FeS2), as its primary component. Pyrite is commonly referred to as "fool's gold" due to its golden color, but it is not actually gold. The term "pyreetärekatus" is derived from the Estonian words "pyriit" (pyrite) and "katus" (roof).

Pyreetärekatus is a traditional roofing technique used in some parts of Estonia, particularly in rural areas. The process involves collecting pyrite from mines or quarries and shaping it into tiles or slabs. These tiles are then laid on the roof, creating a durable and aesthetically pleasing covering. The golden color of pyrite provides a unique and visually appealing contrast to the more common black or red roofing materials.

The use of pyrite as a roofing material has several advantages. Pyrite is relatively abundant and can be easily mined, making it a cost-effective roofing solution.
