Putoransky

Putoransky refers to the Putorana Plateau, a vast basalt plateau located in northern Siberia, Russia. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its exceptional natural beauty and geological significance. The plateau is characterized by its immense size, covering over 250,000 square kilometers, and its unique landscape of flat-topped mountains, deep canyons, and numerous waterfalls.

The geology of the Putorana Plateau is dominated by a large igneous province, formed by volcanic activity approximately 250 million years ago. This resulted in thick layers of basalt, which have since been eroded by glaciers and rivers, creating the dramatic topography seen today. The plateau is home to one of the largest concentrations of waterfalls in the world, with estimates suggesting thousands of cascades.

The region is sparsely populated and largely untouched, making it a crucial habitat for a variety of flora and fauna. It is known for its migratory reindeer herds and is home to the Siberian bighorn sheep. The remoteness and harsh climate contribute to its pristine condition. Access to the Putoransky Plateau is challenging, typically requiring specialized transport such as helicopters or off-road vehicles, further preserving its wilderness.
