Pushfitting

Pushfitting refers to a type of plumbing connection that allows pipes to be joined without the need for soldering, glue, or clamps. The system typically involves a fitting with an internal O-ring seal and a gripping mechanism. When a pipe is pushed into the fitting, the O-ring creates a watertight seal, and the gripping mechanism, often comprised of stainless steel teeth or a collet, securely holds the pipe in place.

To disconnect a pushfit connection, a special tool is usually required to release the gripping mechanism. This tool depresses the collet, allowing the pipe to be pulled free. Pushfit systems are known for their ease of installation, making them popular for both professional plumbers and DIY enthusiasts. They can be used with various types of pipes, including copper, PEX, and CPVC, depending on the specific fitting manufacturer's specifications.

The main advantages of pushfitting include speed of installation, reduced labor costs, and the ability to work in damp conditions where soldering would be difficult or impossible.
