Purposefocusing is a contemporary personal-development concept that describes methods for clarifying and aligning individual goals, values, and daily actions through sustained reflective attention. It combines elements of goal-setting, values clarification, mindful awareness, and embodied reflection to help people identify what they consider meaningful and to translate that clarity into practical steps.

Practices labeled purposefocusing vary but commonly include guided reflection on core values, attention to bodily sensations associated with different options, structured journaling prompts, and iterative small-step planning. Some approaches draw explicitly on experiential psychotherapy techniques such as Eugene Gendlin’s focusing, while others incorporate elements from coaching, mindfulness, and strategic planning. Sessions may be self-directed or facilitated by coaches, therapists, or group leaders.

Applications include individual life and career coaching, organizational visioning, educational guidance, and therapeutic contexts where meaning and motivation are relevant.
