Pupstream

Pupstream refers to the concept of data flowing "upstream" from a source to a central point or destination. In computing and network architecture, this often describes the direction of data transmission. For example, in a client-server model, a client sending a request to a server is an upstream transmission. Similarly, a user uploading a file to a cloud storage service is sending data upstream.

This term is commonly used in networking to distinguish from downstream, which refers to data flowing from the source to the recipient. Bandwidth is often allocated differently for upstream and downstream traffic, with downstream typically receiving higher priority or capacity in consumer internet services. This is because most internet activities, like browsing web pages and streaming video, involve a larger volume of downstream data.

In the context of data pipelines, upstream components are those that feed data into a particular process or system. For instance, in an ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) process, the data source systems are considered upstream from the transformation and loading stages.
