Punnata
Punnata, also transliterated puññata, is a term in Pali and Buddhist literature referring to merit—the quality or result produced by wholesome, intentional actions. The word derives from puñña, meaning merit, with the suffix -ta forming a noun meaning “meritfulness” or “merit.” In many texts, punnata designates the state of having committed virtuous deeds and thereby generating wholesome kamma.
Within Buddhist doctrine, merit (puñña/punnata) is a genuine causal force that can lead to favorable rebirths,
Merit contrasts with demerit (pāpa) and with non-meritorious wholesome acts; it is not a permanent possession
