Punktskriftsdisplay, also known as a braille display or refreshable braille display, is an electromechanical device that allows visually impaired individuals to read digital text. It converts characters from a computer, smartphone, or other electronic device into braille, presenting them as raised dots on a line of cells. Each cell typically consists of six or eight pins that can be raised or lowered to form braille characters.

These displays connect to a host device via USB or Bluetooth. Software on the host device, such as a screen reader, interprets the visual information and sends the corresponding braille code to the display. As the user navigates through the digital content, the braille display updates dynamically, providing a tactile reading experience.

Punktskriftsdisplays are crucial for accessibility, enabling braille readers to interact with the internet, documents, emails, and various applications. They come in different sizes, with varying numbers of braille cells, ranging from 14 to 80 cells. Larger displays offer a more comprehensive view of text, while smaller, portable versions are ideal for mobile use. The technology has significantly expanded access to information and communication for the blind and visually impaired community.
