Pulverimaalautus

Pulverimaalautus, also known as powder coating, is a dry finishing process that uses finely ground particles of pigment and resin suspended in the air and applied electrostatically to the surface of an object. The charged powder adheres to the object, which is then cured under heat, causing the powder to melt and fuse into a smooth, durable coating. This process is widely used for metal products, offering a protective and decorative finish that is more resistant to chipping, scratching, and fading than conventional liquid paints.

The application of powder coating typically involves several steps. First, the object to be coated is thoroughly cleaned and pre-treated to remove any dirt, grease, or rust and to ensure proper adhesion. Then, the object is grounded and the powder coating is applied using an electrostatic spray gun. The gun imparts an electrical charge to the powder particles, which are attracted to the grounded object. Once coated, the object is moved into a curing oven where the heat causes the powder to melt, flow, and crosslink, forming a continuous, hard finish.

Powder coating offers several advantages. It is an environmentally friendly process as it contains no volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and overspray can be reclaimed and reused. The resulting coating is typically thicker and more durable than liquid paint, providing excellent resistance to corrosion and wear. It is available in a vast array of colors and finishes, including matte, gloss, metallic, and textured effects, making it a versatile option for many applications.
