Pulsoksümeeter

A pulsoksümeeter, commonly known as a pulse oximeter, is a non-invasive medical device used to measure the oxygen saturation level of a person's blood. It also typically displays the heart rate. The device works by shining two beams of light, one red and one infrared, through a translucent part of the body, usually a fingertip or earlobe. The amount of light absorbed by the blood differs depending on whether the hemoglobin is carrying oxygen or not. By comparing the absorption of the two light wavelengths, the pulsoksümeeter can calculate the percentage of hemoglobin that is saturated with oxygen, known as SpO2.

This measurement is crucial for assessing respiratory function and the effectiveness of oxygen therapy. Low oxygen saturation levels can indicate a variety of medical conditions, including lung diseases like pneumonia or COPD, heart problems, or sleep apnea. In critical care settings, pulsoksümeetrid are used to continuously monitor patients' oxygen levels, allowing healthcare professionals to respond quickly to any changes. They are also widely used in homes for managing chronic respiratory conditions or by individuals who want to monitor their oxygen levels during strenuous physical activity. The device is simple to use, typically clipping onto a finger, and provides a quick reading of the patient's oxygenation status.
