Pulsoksymetrami

Pulsoksymetrami is a term that occasionally appears in Polish-language sources. It is not widely used in English-language literature and may reflect a plural form or a misspelling of pulsoksymetria, the Polish term for pulse oximetry. As such, there is no separate, widely recognized field or technique named pulsoksymetrami itself. When encountered, it most likely refers to the measurement practice of pulse oximetry.

Pulse oximetry is a noninvasive method to estimate arterial oxygen saturation (SpO2) and heart rate. A small sensor placed on a finger, toe, earlobe, or other perfused site emits red and infrared light and detects the light that passes through the tissue. The instrument uses differences in absorption between oxygenated and deoxygenated hemoglobin to infer SpO2.

Applications include routine monitoring during surgery and anesthesia, intensive care, emergency medicine, sleep studies, and home monitoring in chronic lung disease.

Limitations: accuracy can be affected by poor perfusion, motion, nail polish, skin pigmentation, ambient light, carbon monoxide poisoning, methemoglobinemia, or abnormal hemoglobin; readings may lag behind real changes in oxygenation.

History: modern pulse oximetry emerged in the 1980s-1990s, with early work by Takuo Aoyagi and collaborators; since then devices have become compact and widely used.
